This has to be the best Italian restaurant in town. Their authentic Italian cuisine uses ingredients imported from Italy, and is prepared using traditional old-world recipes. Il Forno means “the oven”, and what comes out of this oven is truly delectable.The all-Italian concept of course is reflected in the wine list of imported Italian with wines like Pinot Blanco, Dogarina, Sangiovese, Prunotte, and Chianti. ($2.50 - $4 per glass, $14 - $48 per bottle) The drinks menu also includes Sambuca, Campari, beer and spirits. The 8 kinds of Tapas and salads include Bruschette Miste, Grilled Smoked Scamorza on Zucchini & Aubergines, and wild Roquette-Gorgonzola-nuts-lettuce & apple. The skewered fresh Mozzarella Bocconcini & cherry tomatoes with Basil sauce is excellent! For pastas, Tagliatelle al Pesto, spaghetti, and Penne A are featured. Be sure and try the Gnocchi ai 4 Fromaggi. This potato dumpling with 4 cheeses literally melts in your mouth, with an incredible cheese flavor. It is the best ever! Another superbly prepared dish is the Lasange al Forno.
Of course when you think of Italian food, you think of pizza, and the pizza here is as close as you can get to real Italian pizza without going to Italy. Tonda - Napoletana, Salame, Prosciutto Cotto, Calzone, Pomodori, and Ricca will satisfy your craving for great authentic pizza. Sumptuous platters include Cheese, Smoked Norwegian Salmon, Charcuterie, and Seafood ($7 to $15). At the end of your meal, you can enjoy the richness of Panna Cotta, or Sgroppino (lime sorbet in Prosecco & vodka).
At this writing, Il Forno has only been open for a short time, but it is hoped this new bistro will be in Siem Reap for a long time. Lovers of genuine Italian cuisine will want to try Il Forno. Open 12noon to 11pm.
